Box Score RENSSELAER, N.Y. — The Bard women's tennis team competed hard against the RPI Engineers, the top team in the Liberty League, on Tuesday afternoon. On a warm, sunny day, the quick speed of the court proved to be advantageous for RPI in its win.
Maya Kelly and
Paige Houghton got two games in their team-high 10th match as a duo at No. 1 doubles.
Victoria Bagatcholon and
Patricia Santos played their third match at No. 2 doubles together and fourth overall. For the Raptors' No. 3 doubles team of
Lisa Kyrtoka and
Jesse Radzik, the result moved them to 3-2 at No. 3 doubles on the season.
At No. 1 singles, Kelly was outlasted by RPI, but she battled in rallies and earned two games in the second set. Houghton took the court at No. 2 singles, where the Engineers placed shots into the backhand corner and then capitalized on Houghton's responses.
Bagatcholon held tough in cross-court rallies at No. 3 singles. It was her seventh match in a row at that position, and she has played half of the Raptors' matches as the No. 3 singles player. At No. 4 singles, Santos got a game but could not find a rhythm from the back of the court, as her opponent was mixing it up well with drop shots and slices.
At No. 5 singles, Radzik chased down every ball RPI sent her way, getting on the board in both sets due to her hustle. Kyrtoka challenged the Engineers at No. 6 singles, completing the lineup for Bard. Her RPI opponent found her footing and limited errors en route to the win.
