ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College women's lacrosse team hosted the RPI Engineers for Senior Day on Friday evening. The four senior Raptors were recognized:
Maya Junkins,
Maggy Peyton,
Izzi Popolizio, and
Morgan Ruhle.
Lexie Blackburn had 13 saves, a season-high, marking her fifth 10+ save game. Victoria Rowe came in and made two saves in the fourth period. Emerson Embrey and Peyton each scored goals to lead the Raptors' offense. Embrey added two ground balls, a draw control, and a caused turnover. Peyton stood out in the center circle with a team-high four draw controls.
Carmen Merrick made her debut on defense, picking up a ground ball and a caused turnover. Ruhle had a team-high five ground balls and contributed two caused turnovers plus a draw control in the effort. Popolizio had a team-high two caused turnovers and a ground ball. Ella Perrault was active in the midfield with two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
The Engineers opened with a 5-0 run, but Embrey answered with a free-position goal. Locking eyes with the RPI goalie, she fired a shot from the right side and buried it top shelf. Bard stepped up its ground ball game in the second period, holding the Engineers to six fewer pickups. The Raptors also held RPI scoreless over a period of more than four minutes. However, the Engineers continued to add on after that drought. Bard also had a defensive stand for 6:10 in the third period, but couldn't break through on offense. With 3:16 remaining in the game, Peyton capitalized on a woman-up opportunity, racing behind the goal and bouncing a precise shot past the Engineers' goalie. The Raptors did not commit any fouls in the final frame while drawing four RPI fouls.
Bard faces #19 Ithaca tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Ferrari Soccer & Lacrosse Complex for Pride Day.
