The Bard College track and field team had four Raptors place Top 8 in their respective events with
Gabrielle Parchment and
Carina Cooke running a Liberty League qualifying standard at the UAlbany Spring Classic.
Clemente Esponilla and Parchment broke school records in their respective events.
"It was an all around great day," said head coach
Brody Smith. "We have shown a lot of growth from meet to meet, and we could see it today. We saw personal records in every event we competed in, and we competed with confidence."
Parchment ran a new school record in the 100 meter and 200 meter. In the 100 meter, Parchment finished fourth with a time of 12.91 surpassing Imani Jones' time of 13.12 which was set back in 2014. In the 200 meter, Parchment cut nearly two seconds off her personal best with a time of 26.93. She surpassed Claire Dickson's time of 27.16 that she set back in 2022. Parchment's time finished 5th place, just behind four Division I runners. Both of her times has qualified her for the Liberty League Championships.
Smith added, "Gabby's 200m record is a reflection of that hard work and belief coming together. You could see her confidence build throughout the day, so it wasn't a surprise to see that level of performance from her. It's been fun to watch the team develop throughout the season and to now get a positive result for their efforts, and I'm excited to see how far they can go."
Carina Cooke ran a personal best in both of her events, finishing seventh in the 200 meters with a time of 27.84. Cooke finished fourth in the 400 meters with a personal best and a Liberty League standard with a time of 1:03.71.
Hawra Moochhala ran a personal best time in the 200 meter and finished sixth with a time of 27.63. Moochhala's time was just off by .63 to qualify for the Liberty League.
Lismery Guzman-Cruz threw a personal best in the finals of the shot put with a 6.34m.
Camila Sandaal ran a personal best in both of her events, 200 and 400 meters. Sandaal finished with a 1:06.83 time in the 400 meters, shaving off close to five seconds.
Amaya Zebe-Herrera ran a personal best in the 1500 meters with a time of 6:30.40.
On the men's side,
Clemente Esponilla shined in the 5K, finishing tied for fifth place. Esponilla smashed his school record with a time of 15:51.04, shaving close to 10 seconds off his time.
"Clemente has been trying to break 16 minutes in the 5k for the last three years that both he and I have been at Bard," said distance coach,
Reed Williams. "It was an incredible race, under the lights which always makes for a fun distance race, and he executed his race strategy perfectly. His success today was a perfect reflection of how we view daily hard work leading to the completion of long term goals, which is exactly what we're trying to do with this program in the years to come. The support of his teammates when he finished the race was deafening, and everyone had smiles on their faces. Great day to be a coach."
In the 400 meters,
Ian Zhao,
Kai Washington and
Charlie Grenadier all ran a personal best.
Ilyas Hotak ran a personal best time in the 1500 meters.
Lazaros Panagiotounis ran a personal best in the 100 meter
The Raptors will travel to Vassar next Saturday for their last meet before the Liberty League Championships in May.
