RECAP: Baseball could not hold on to early lead against Bates

The Bard College baseball team had a one run lead for five innings but could not keep the lead as the Raptors fell to Bates, 6-3 on Friday afternoon.

Bard scored their first run on a double steal play as the Raptors had runners in the corners. Jimmy Famularo was caught out on second, while Rob DeBello managed to get home safely to put Bard up on the scoreboard.

Kane Morgan started on the mound and did a fantastic job not letting Bates score a run until the bottom of the sixth inning. Morgan only walked one batter and had three strikeouts in 6.2 innings pitched.

Bates scored two runs in the sixth inning, three in the seventh and one in the eighth. Bard tried to come back in the top of the eighth inning as they scored two runs off a Xavier Webb double down the left field line to narrow down the deficit.

Webb and DeBello each had two hits, while Famularo and Mike Lynch had a hit each. Jamie Fryer and Emmett O'Brien each drew a walk, while Kyle Palleschi led the team with two walks. Jackson Sprinzen came in to pitch as relief and threw 1.1 innings and struck out two batters.

Bard will face Bates tomorrow for a doubleheader with the first pitch at noon.
