RECAP: Baseball comes up short against Rochester

Story Links

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College baseball team fell short of a comeback against Rochester on Friday afternoon at Honey Field.

Bard had three players with two hits on the day as Xavier Webb and Jimmy Famularo led the team with two hits and a run each. Rob DeBello also had two hits. Emmett O'Brien, Jamie Fryer, Johnny O'Connor, and Spencer Azzara also had a hit, with O'Brien drawing two walks. Gavin Gonzalez led the team with two RBIs.

Kane Morgan started on the mound for the Raptors as he threw 2.2 innings and had two strikeouts. Dylan Conte came out of the bullpen and threw 1.1 innings with two strikeouts, while Nikhil Newman finished off the game, throwing a season-high 5.0 innings and five strikeouts.

Rochester started strong in the first inning, driving in three runs, but the Raptors answered back in the bottom of the inning with an RBI ground-out by Gonzalez to get Bard on the board. The Yellow Jackets scored four runs each in the second and third to increase their lead. Bard added a run on the board off a sac-fly RBI by O'Connor.

The Raptors had plenty of chances to score runs in the later half of the game with at least one to two runners left on base. Bard added a run in the bottom of the fifth off a fielder-choice RBI by Gonzalez. Then Webb's RBI single to center field in the sixth inning and a 1-2-3 out by Bard's defense helped prevent the run rule effect in the seventh inning.

Bard will take on Rochester tomorrow at 1 p.m., weather permitting, to close out the series.
