Box Score CANTON, N.Y. — The Bard women's tennis team played a conference match against St. Lawrence at Newell Field House on Sunday morning.
At No. 1 doubles, Maya Kelly/Paige Houghton hit two backhand winners in the set, and they did not commit an error on that ad-side of the baseline. They won 5-of-8 points on their second serve in comparison to the Saints' 1-of-4. However, the St. Lawrence's duo got most of their first serves in, which was key to their win.
Bard's team of Victoria Bagatcholon and Jesse Radzik fell at No. 2 doubles. Patricia Santos and Lisa Kyrtoka won a game at No. 3 doubles and battled to four sudden-death deuce games in the set.
Kelly dropped her match at No. 1 singles, where she earned a game against her opponent in the second set. Her opponent generated pace from her one-handed backhand and was a tough matchup for Kelly.
At No. 2 singles, Houghton engaged in long rallies with her opponent. Houghton won 5-of-6 second serve points in the first set but took just 4-of-12 first serve points.
At No. 3 singles, Bagatcholon took a game off her opponent in set one. At No. 4 singles, Santos counterpunched her way to three games. She was down a break in the second set when she started to find a rhythm, hitting just three unforced errors compared to her opponent's 13.
Bard's No. 5 singles player, Radzik, took a game in each set and was in most games against a power hitting Saint. She was able to hit unreturnable serves, putting pressure on the returner.
Kyrtoka played in the No. 6 singles spot, where her opponent dictated play with her shots.
The Raptors will travel to Skidmore after Spring Break on March 29th at 5 p.m. to take on the Thoroughbreds.
