Lexie Blackburn was back in goal and saved 11 shots, while Victoria Rowe came in for the fourth period and saved three. Blackburn added a ground ball and a caused turnover.

Hartwick had a 3-0 lead early on, but the Raptors were able to hold the Hawks scoreless for over eight minutes after the opening three and a half minutes. During this stretch, Peyton found Popolizio for Bard's first goal of the game at the 8:56 mark in the first period. Each team had six successful clear attempts, but Hartwick held a four-goal lead after two late goals.

In the second period, Embrey scored back-to-back goals in the span of 10 seconds to bring Bard within two. She had an assist to Popolizio shortly after, capping a 3-1 start to the period. The Hawks responded with three straight goals of their own. With just over two minutes to play until halftime, Embrey got a free position shot and scored her third goal.

The Hawks found a rhythm after coming out of the locker room, with two early draw controls and subsequent goals from Kara Anderson, who scored a team-high four goals in their season opener. Bard won the ensuing draw control in an attempt to regain their footing. However, Hartwick scored eight more times in the period. In the fourth, the Raptors only allowed one goal in the first 10:36 of action, but couldn't complete the comeback.

Bard will travel to SUNY Maritime on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
