RECAP: Baseball drops game one of the series to Muhlenberg

The Bard College baseball dropped game one of a three-game series to Muhlenberg, 7-2, on Friday afternoon at Penn Medicine Park.

Aidan Kiefer had his first collegiate start and debut on the mound. He threw 3.0 innings and had three strikeouts. Jackson Sprinzen was one of three Raptors that came out of the bullpen. He threw 1.2 innings and allowed one hit. Graham Benway threw 2.1 innings with two strikeouts, while Orland Shin had his first collegiate appearance on the mound and threw in the bottom of the eighth and had two strikeouts.

The Raptors had to battle the gusty wind and only had three hits. James Karras, Gavin Gonzalez, and Jimmy Famularo each had a hit. However, the Raptors were patient on the plate as they drew seven walks, including two walks each from Spencer Azzara and Jeremy Hall

Muhlenberg opened the scoring on an RBI double in the bottom of the second and extended their lead with a pair of runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. Bard did not give up as the Raptors were rallying back for a comeback on the top of the ninth. Elias Grosfoguel, Jamie Fryer, and Spencer Azzara loaded the bases as Grosfoguel and Azzara drew a walk each, while Fryer got hit by a pitch. Mike Lynch brought home Grosfoguel on a SAC fly, while Fryer scored on a wild pitch. The Mules pitcher was able to get out of the jam with a strikeout.

Bard will be back tomorrow for a doubleheader against Muhlenberg with the first pitch at noon.
