ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College men's volleyball team closed out their home games at Stevenson Athletic Center as they battled against SUNY Poly, 3-1. The Raptors fell 3-1 in close sets to the Wildcats on Saturday afternoon.

Both teams were equally matched as Bard had one more kill over Poly (51-50). Today's game was a battle for playoff standings. Sidney Stein led the team with 22 kills, a kill shy from tying his career-high, while Ansel Waisler had his 20th game with double-digit kills with 15 kills. Waisler added a team-high 10 digs. Pearse Esposito had a career-high 40 assists and added two aces.

Poly took an early start in the first set going on a 7-2 run, but it was short-lived as Bard answered back with a 5-2 run to get within two of the Wildcats, thanks to three consecutive kills from Stein and a kill from Grisso. Bard took their first lead of the set after going on a 6-0 run at 15-18 to go up 20-18. The Wildcats regrouped and fought back with a 7-2 run to close out the set, 25-22.

The second set was similar to the first with both teams going back and forth and going on mini runs. Bard had a two-point lead over Poly at 24-22, but the Wildcats tied the game up 24-24 and saved two set points before a kill from Stein set up the Raptors for their fifth set point. Quincy Ross would finish the job with a kill to tie the game up 1-1.

In the third set, Poly took a 12-6 lead but Bard answered back and got within one, 14-13. A 7-4 run by the Wildcats helped them take a four-point lead. Back-to-back block assists by Andrew Baaki and Joshua Slater helped the Wildcats close out the third set. Bard took an early lead in the fourth set, 15-10, but Poly went on a 10-3 run to take back the lead, 20-18. Two kills from Lincoln Grisso and an attacking error from Poly had the team tied up at 21-21. Poly went on a mini 3-0 run to set up match point. The Raptors saved two match points with a kill from Stein and a Wildcat error, but Poly was able to close the set with their third match point, 25-23.

Bard will close out their regular season with an away match at Lehman on Thursday at 6 p.m. before they await their opponent for the NEVC Quarterfinals on April 9th.
