DELHI, N.Y. — The Bard men's tennis team won a non-conference match against Delhi at Clark Field House on Thursday afternoon, 6-1.
Thanasis Kostikas and
Faisal Jones played at No. 1 doubles, dropping two games but finishing strong and securing the Raptors' doubles point, 6-2.
Yashar Khan and
George Miahkov forced 11 Bronco errors but could not secure a victory at No. 2 doubles, as Delhi won the game 6-4.
At No. 3 doubles,
Augustin Johnson and
Ciaran Chamberlain cruised by their opponents and finished first of all three doubles matchups, 6-1.
At No. 1 singles, Kostikas hit three aces and won 17-of-18 (94.4%) points on his serve, holding all his service game but one. He also found success on return, winning 16-of-20 (80%) points on Delhi's second serve, 6-1, 6-2.
Jones clinched the match at No. 2 singles, after coming back from a 4-1 deficit in the second set, winning the final five games of the match, 6-3, 6-4.
At No. 3 singles, Miahkov fell to his opponent, getting a game in the second set.
The fourth singles match went to a third-set decider, with Khan coming back to defeat his opponent, 4-6, 6-0, 6-4. Khan battled through the match while fasting, a tough task in a lengthy fight.
Johnson won swiftly at No. 5 singles, using a combination of solid serves and effective groundstrokes, 6-1, 6-0.
At No. 6 singles, Chamberlain settled into the match with his serving, then finished the match with an improved rhythm on his groundstrokes.
Next Thursday at 3 p.m., the Raptors have their spring home opener against John Jay.
