Two Men’s Basketball Student Athletes named to the 2024-25 Division III Academic All-District Team

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College men's basketball team has two 2024-25 Division III Academic All-District honorees, an award that recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance on the court and in the classroom. 

The two students honored are graduate students Azriel Almodovar and Rowan Heinze

Graduate student Azriel Almodovar is majoring in philosophy. Almodovar played in 25 games and started in 24 games for the Raptors this season. He was named the Defensive Player of the Year in the Liberty League. Almodovar ranked number one in the league with 66 steals (2.6 per game), seventh in the conference with 7.1 rebounds per game, and third in the league with 89 assists. Almodovar produced season high performances of 22 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists and seven steals. He had 14 games with double-digit points and finished five games with double-digit rebounds this season. Almodovar ranks second in steals (216), fourth in assists (278), and fifth in rebounds (602) in program history. He scored 778 points throughout his four seasons as a Raptor. He is a four-time Liberty League All-Academic honoree.

Graduate student Rowan Heinze is majoring in biology. Heinze started all 25 games for the Raptors this season. He was 12th in the league in scoring, at 11.7 per game. Heinze had 14 games with double-digit points. Heinze produced season-high performances of 28 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists. He had 756 points in his career and was second in scoring for the Raptors the past two seasons. He led the starters in field goal percentage this year at 52.8%. Heinze had the game-winning layup against Hobart as time expired on January 17th. He is a four-time Liberty League All-Academic honoree. 

To be recognized on the Academic All-District Team, a student-athlete must be a sophomore or higher in class standing and enrolled full-time with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50. The student-athletes must also have competed in 90 percent of the institutions' games or must start in at least 66 percent of games.
