ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College men's volleyball team defeated the Drew Rangers in a thrilling five sets at Stevenson Athletic Center on Tuesday night.

Ansel Waisler led the Raptors with a game-high 21 kills, hitting .313, while adding 11 digs and four blocks. Reigning NEVC Athlete and Rookie of the Week Sidney Stein had 16 kills, four assists, and seven digs in the victory. Pearse Esposito recorded a career-high 39 assists, adding 10 digs and three blocks. Lincoln Grisso had 11 digs, tied for the team lead with Waisler. He added eight kills and two blocks. Quincy Ross had a season-high six blocks at the net.

Drew won the first set after a 6-0 run early in the set proved too difficult to overcome. The Rangers had a 12-6 advantage in kills in the opener. The second set was filled with high-level action from both sides. From 14-11 Drew until the end of the set, there was only one run of three or more points in a row – the final three points that brought the Raptors even in the match with a set score of 1-1.

Once again, the Rangers went up a set after the third set concluded. They hit .333 in the frame, using a 7-0 run while leading 14-10 to take it. Bard saw its window of opportunity start to close after finding itself down 5-8 in the fourth, but the Raptors won seven of the next eight points to regain control. Gideon Jacob served up an ace on Bard's first set point to force a decider.

The Raptors had their best hitting percentage of the match in the fifth set, hitting .375 as a result of their 12 kills to just three errors. They got out to a 4-1 lead in the set and never trailed, although the Rangers got to within one twice in the middle of the set. At 8-7, Waisler went on a personal 4-0 run, forcing a timeout from Drew. The Rangers got the next three points, but the Raptors came through in the end.

Bard will host a tri-match with Nichols and Regis on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
