ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Izzi Popolizio breaks the all-time career assist record as the Bard College women's lacrosse opened their 2025 season with a home opener against Saint Joseph. The Raptors fell 21-14 on Saturday afternoon at Ferrari Field.

Emerson Embrey had a career-high day in all categories; she led the team with a career-high four goals in five shots on goal. Embrey added seven caused turnovers, seven ground balls and five draw controls. Julia Champagne appeared in her first collegiate game and had a team-high five points with three goals (scored all in the first period) and two assists. Gwendolyn Jamison got her first hat-trick of the season and added an assist and picked up two ground balls.

Popolizio added two goals, and a ground ball on top of her two assists on the day. She needed two assists to surpass Brianna Bean's 51 career assists which has been held by Bean for a decade. Kayla Francis got her first collegiate goal, while adding four ground balls and four caused turnovers. Morgan Ruhle added five ground balls, three caused turnovers and a goal. Rian Sullivan and Ella Perreault each had three ground balls, while Fae Johnson added two ground balls. Maya Junkins added an assist and three draw controls. Keira Redmond had her collegiate start in goal and had a ground ball and 12 saves.

Saint Joseph struck first with a goal from Anna LeGault, the leading scorer for the Blue Jays, and she later got her 100th career point. However, Bard answered back with two quick goals from Champagne. USJ went on a 5-0 run to take back the lead at 6-2 with 1:14 left. Jamison and Champagne beat their defenders to help reduce the deficit to two goals heading into the second period.

The second period went back and forth with the Blue Jays having a 4-3 goal advantage in the end. After halftime, Bard opened with two quick goals to reduce the deficit to only one, but Saint Joseph answered right back with four goals. The Raptors reduced the deficit back to 3 goals with a coast-to-coast goal from Kayla Francis before heading to the fourth period. In the fourth period, USJ outscored Bard 5-3.

Bard will be on the road for the next four games starting with a Wednesday match-up against Mount Saint Mary at 6 p.m.
