RECAP: Women’s Tennis Wins Nailbiter at Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I. – The Bard College women's tennis team snatched their final match of the fall against the Salve Regina Seahawks on Saturday afternoon, 4-3.


At No. 1 doubles, Maria Castro and Paige Houghton won 6-3. Patricia Santos and Catherine Chapel played at No. 2 doubles together and nearly grabbed the victory, taking five games. At No. 3 doubles, Jesse Radzik and Natalie Lagunes took down the Seahawks 6-1.

At No. 1 singles, Castro led the lineup with a clean victory. Houghton tested Salve Regina at No. 2 singles, earning two games. At No. 3 singles, Lagunes competed in her eighth match at that position.

At No. 4 singles, Chapel clinched the match, coming back from 0-3 down in the second set, rattling off six straight games. At No. 5 singles, Santos fought to get six games, nearly taking a 4-6 first set. Radzik roared back from a 4-6 first set to win 6-1, 10-4 in a pivotal No. 6 singles match.

The Raptors will resume action in the spring, with their first match scheduled for March 28th at William Smith at 2 p.m.
