RECAP: Men’s Soccer Contends with Vassar

Pablo Ortega scores the first goal against Vassar since 2014

The Bard College men's soccer team got its first goal against Vassar in more than a decade on Wednesday afternoon, as Pablo Ortega scored in the 44th minute.

The Raptors had a tall task: to go into the Brewers' home turf and give them their first home loss of the season. Vassar earned a 3-0 lead in the first 26 minutes of the match. The first goal came at the 15:13 mark, the second at the 20:42 mark, and the third just over 10 minutes after the first, at the 25:17 point. After the opening flurry, Bard had a good period of play, culminating in Ortega's goal with 1:32 to play in the half. Pape Davidson had the assist, finding Ortega set up in the middle of the box.

In the second half, the Raptors generated two early corners around two minutes in. Nothing came of it, however, and the Brewers got to work again. Jake Sudit made a couple of saves in the next 20 minutes, one on Diego Pastor-Valverde, and a second on Arden Tobolski. The fourth goal for Vassar came at the 71:36 mark to make it 4-1, which it would remain for the rest of play.

Julian Landau made two saves in the first half, while Sudit made two in the second half. Zac Sparacio played all 90 minutes for Bard.

Next up for the Raptors is an away match at St. Lawrence on Saturday at 1 p.m.
