The Bard College women's basketball team could not claw back from an early deficit against Union on Tuesday evening, falling 31-54. The Raptors collected a season-high 12 steals.
Lexi Miller led the team with ten points on 4-of-8 shooting. She had a near-double-double with nine rebounds. Miller added an assist, a season-high four steals, and two blocks.
Jessica Martin had eight points, two steals, and was a key contributor in a season-high 29 minutes.
Maggy Peyton had seven points, three rebounds and a steal.
Shirley Dong had two steals to go with four rebounds, and
Aislynn Dixon had two steals.
Bard limited their fouls, with only four in the first half. The Raptors shot 33.3% in the first quarter compared to Union's 40%, with Peyton going 2-of-4 from the field. The Raptors hit three of their last five shots going into the second quarter. After withstanding a Union run that put the home team up by 19, Bard's defenders held the Garnet Chargers to four points in the last five minutes of the first half.
In the second half, Bard cut the deficit to 14 after Martin, Peyton, and
Tianna Gonzalez found openings in the defense. The Raptors also got to the line, hitting 5-of-8 free throws in the third quarter. The Bard defense prevented Jelena Perovic from scoring in the second half after a 12-point first half.
The Garnet Chargers' 54 points were the fewest they have scored against Bard since 2018.
Bard will take on Clarkson at 5:30 p.m. on Friday in Potsdam.
