The Bard College men's basketball team could not complete a second-half comeback on Friday night, dropping a 64-63 decision at Clarkson in a Liberty League game at Alumni Gymnasium.
Bard trailed by 12 points midway through the second half but got back within two possessions with 1:10 left. A three-pointer by
Lazaros Panagiotounis in the 53-second mark had the Raptors within one of the Golden Knights. Bard forced a turnover with 20 seconds left and had a chance to win but could not make the game-winning play.
The Raptors had two players in double-digits as
Sean Wilcox led the team with his third double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Wilcox was perfect from the line, going 6-of-6 and adding two blocks. Panagiotounis added 11 points and five rebounds with a team-high four assists.
Azriel Almodovar and
Rowan Heinze each had eight points. Almodovar added seven rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Heinze grabbed six boards.
Jalen Umstead scored 10 points and added four rebounds, while
Ahmad Rauf had six points.
Clarkson took an early lead in the first half after a 15-0 run to go up 20-9. The Raptors fought their way back as they went on an 11-4 run to get within four points with less than four minutes left in the first half.
Lucas Tovar's layup tied the game up at 26-26 with two minutes left to go but the Golden Knights answered with a 7-1 run to have a five-point lead going into halftime.
Bard was more offensive in the second half as they outscored Clarkson 36-32, outrebounded the Golden Knights 24-15, and scored 15 second-chance points. Clarkson scored 19 points off turnovers, enough to keep the Raptors at bay.
Bard will conclude their four-game road stretch against St. Lawrence tomorrow at 4 p.m.
