Gallery: (9-25-2024) Women's Volleyball vs. SUNY Poly
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College women's volleyball team took down the SUNY Poly Wildcats, giving them their third win of the season.
In the first set, the Raptors (3-10) settled into their offensive system, hitting 13 kills with seven errors for a hitting percentage of .182.
Early in the set, down 4-6, the Raptors' Ninni Ylennius came in to serve, helping the team set up their offense to win the next five points. The well rounded offense was set up by
Becca Wintjen, who set up
Xenia Vassou for three key kills, two coming towards the end of the set.
Annika Flittie secured the set with a kill sent to the back of the court off of the hands of Kaylee DeGroat.
Flittie went on to hit seven total kills in the match after hitting three in the first set.
The Wildcats jumped out to an 11-6 lead in the second, but the Raptors' 19-1 run turned the tide. Bard regrouped, led by
LaeAnna Riley's strong serving, hitting six of her eight service aces during the run, which tied her career-high. Vassou had a .625 hitting percentage through the two sets, with three kills in each of the first two sets.
Ella Small anchored the defense when called upon, reaching double-digit digs in the second set with 11.
Poly bounced back in the early stages of the third set, getting an early 4-1 lead. Down by one,
Annika Flittie served for five straight Raptor points, recording two service aces during the run, to take an 11-7 lead. The Bard offense recorded thirteen kills to six errors for a hitting percentage of .259.
Bard had 19 service aces to Poly's seven and 35 kills to Poly's 19. Six Raptors recorded multiple kills, led by
Coral Cook with 11. Cook is in the middle of a six game stretch where she has recorded nine or more kills per match, averaging 12.3 kills per match and 3.2 kills per set in that time period.
Wintjen had 22 assists, while
Paola De La Cruz came in the third set and dished out five. Small reached 13 digs. She has recorded double-digit dig totals in seven of her last eight games and is averaging over 20 digs in her past four games.
Next up for the Raptors is a Saturday showdown at Connecticut College at 2 p.m.
