The Bard College women's volleyball team fought hard but ultimately fell short against Connecticut College on Saturday afternoon, losing in three tightly contested sets.
Bard finished the day with 18 kills, led by
Annika Flittie with five.
Coral Cook tied her career high with five aces and added four kills and three block assists.
Xenia Vassou hit .300 and had two block assists, while
Becca Wintjen totaled 14 assists and nine digs.
The Raptors started slowly, figuring out their footing in the first set. Both teams battled point for point early on. The Camels eventually pulled away and won the first set 25-18. Bard bounced back in the second set, forcing Connecticut to fight for every point in a thrilling 21-25 contest. The Raptors had their best hitting percentage in the second set as they hit .214 with ten kills.
Despite the momentum from the second set, Bard could not maintain their rhythm in the third, as the Camels closed out the match. The Raptors tied Connecticut in aces (8) and blocks (4), showing moments of solid play but could not clinch the win.
The Raptors will return to action on Wednesday at 6 p.m. as they head to SUNY Cobleskill.
