RECAP: Baseball closes out 2024 season at Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. ---  The Bard College baseball team wrapped up their 2024 season on Sunday afternoon at Vassar College, dropping the decision to the host Brewers, 7-2.

Juniors Mike Lynch and Jimmy Famularo led the Raptors with two hits apiece with Famularo adding an RBI. Mike Hannan, Kam Naficy, Xavier Webb, and Emmett O'Brien each contributed a hit in the effort including an RBI triple from Webb - the first of his career for the Raptors.

Bryant Elliott started on the mound and threw 5.0 innings for Bard, striking out five batters before handing over the pitching duties to first year Nikhil Newman. Newman allowed just one hit in three innings pitched while striking out two.

The start of the game was fairly quiet with neither team scoring until Bard took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third off the bat of Famularo. They extended their lead to 2-0 in the fourth when Spencer Azzara drew a walk and took advantage of a wild pitch to advance along the basepath before Webb's triple brought him home.

Vassar responded in the bottom of the fourth with three runs on three hits, giving the home team a 3-2 advantage. The Brewers gradually extended their lead, scoring two runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings to complete the scoring for the remainder of the game.

Bard threatened to rally in the top of the eighth but weren't able to convert after starting the inning with two runners reaching before the first out was made.

Bard finishes their 2024 campaign at 6-26 with a bright future for the Raptors who will return four of the five players who lead the team in batting average. Famularo leads that list, finishing the season hitting .355 to go with a team best 43 hits on the season. This was the final Bard game in the careers of Mike Hannan, Michael Kurlan, Nick Hubbe, and Aidan Risse.
