RECAP: Men’s Volleyball takes two from NVU-Johnson

The Bard men's volleyball team earned its first conference win of the season, beating Northern Vermont University Johnson on Saturday afternoon.

The Raptors played two matches against Johnson, with the first one counting in the NEVC standings, and won both by 3-1 set scores.

In the first match, Bard captured two sets quickly, 25-15 and 25-14, before the hosts captured the third in a narrow 26-24 battle. The Raptors recovered to win the fourth set 25-19 to earn the victory.

A balanced attack helped the Raptors with Kincade Avery leading the team with 14 kills, followed by Micah Kelleher (9), Lincoln Grisso (8), Angel Obergh (8), and Quincy Ross (6). Georgi Chikolov had 35 assists and three kills of his own. Defensively, Avery and Obergh both had double-digit digs, with 19 and 12, respectively.

The second match saw more of the same, as the Raptors won the first two sets 25-14 and 25-15 before Johnson captured the third again, this time 25-21. Bard saw the match out with a 25-18 fourth set.

Obergh (14) and Avery (10) again led Bard in kills, and Azriel Almodovar added five on his first day back with the team following the conclusion of the basketball season. Quinn Lewis and Ben Davis helped out defensively with eight digs apiece.

Obergh now ranks fifth in school history for career kills wtih 688, taking over Billy William's 668 career kills.
