ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard women's lacrosse team battled Mount St. Mary but came up short in a home, non-conference match-up on Monday evening, with the visitors winning 14-7.
Mount St. Mary took a 1-0 lead in the opening minutes of play, but Bard answered back with three straight goals to take the lead. First was a goal from
Nashua Poreda, the first of their career, followed up by a goal from classmate
Gwendolyn Jamison for a 2-1 lead. The Raptors finished out the first quarter with a solo goal from
Emerson Embrey with 24 seconds left on the game clock to go ahead 3-1.
The Raptors found their run thwarted as the Knights went on to score ten unanswered goals throughout the 2nd and 3rd quarters to take control of the game.
Izzi Popolizio's goal with three minutes left in the third stopped the scoring drought for the Raptors heading into the final period of play. The Raptors and Knights each scored three goals in the fourth, with Bard's goals coming from a free position shot by
Maggy Peyton and two additional goals for
Emerson Embrey.
Embrey led Bard with three goals, her first career hat trick, and the other goals came from Peyton, Jamison, Poreda, and
Izzi Popolizio, who also had two assists.
Maya Junkins had an assist, two ground balls, one caused turnover, and four draw controls, and
Ella Perreault had three ground balls.
Bard will play Wentworth in the team's Morgan's Message game, a fundraiser for mental health awareness, this Saturday at 1pm on Ferrari Field.
