ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. — The Bard College men's volleyball team split their doubleheader against Elms to open up their home schedule on Saturday at the Stevenson Athletic Center.
Bard (3-4) was led by first-years
Kincade Avery and
Lincoln Grisso, and by graduate student
Angel Obergh, all of whom notched double-digit kills in each match. Elms swept Bard in the first match of the morning by the set scores 25-17, 26-24, and 25-15. Match two resulted in a five set win for the Raptors who defeated the Blazers 25-23, 16-25, 21-25, 25-19, and 17-15.
Avery totaled 30 kills while hitting .311, including a career-high 18 kills in the second match of the day. Grisso also had a personal best, totaling 23 kills with a hitting percentage of .280. Obergh totaled 26 kills and hit .315 while tallying 10 digs.
In match one, Bard outhit their opponents by 41 kills to Elms' 37, but it was the 12 attack errors and 16 service errors that cost the Raptors the win. By match two, the Raptors turned it around from the start by winning the opening set before letting Elms back into the match with wins in both the second and third sets. The set four victory was crucial for the Raptors to keep the match alive and carry the momentum into the fifth set. In the final set, Bard kicked things off with a 5-4 lead before going on a 6-1 run to take an 11-5 lead. Elms saved three match points before the Raptors clinched the game with a kill from Obergh.
Sophomore
Georgi Chikolov totaled 80 assists, including a career-high 49 assists in game two while notching seven kills and 14 digs. First-year
Ben Davis totaled 10 digs and added two kills, fellow classmate
Micah Kelleher had a team-high four blocks, followed by Grisso with three. Graduate student
Quincy Ross totaled 10 kills, including seven in game two.
Bard will be back on the road on Thursday as they face Brooklyn at 7 p.m.
