ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College baseball team opened the season with a 3-2 win over Cobleskill on Monday afternoon at Honey Field.
Bard (1-0) took an early lead in the bottom of the second courtesy an RBI triple by
Michael Kurlan, and never trailed thanks to a strong pitching performance. The Raptor pitching staff combined to allow just two unearned runs on five hits. Five Raptors posted at least one hit, and
Gavin Gonzalez and Kurlan had an RBI each.
Senior
Aidan Risse threw four innings in his first start of the year, allowing just one hit and notching seven strikeouts. Sophomore
Kane Morgan came on in relief and threw four innings and had a career-high seven strikeouts. First-year
Nikhil Newman threw the ninth inning and got two strikeouts to earn the save.
The Raptors were up 1-0 after two innings of play, and made it 3-0 in the bottom of the seventh off a balk and then an error by Cobleskill. The Raptors held Cobleskill scoreless until the ninth inning when the Fighting Tigers scored off a Raptors error and a balk.
Bard will be back in action on Saturday, March 9th and Sunday, March 10th for a three-game series against Bates at Honey Field.
