ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y - The Bard College men's soccer team fell short against the nationally ranked No. 20 Vassar in their third Liberty League conference play on Wednesday evening at Ferrari Field.
The first half started with the Brewers jumping quickly on the offensive and firing off nine hard-fought shots in under 23 minutes, 6 of which were amazingly saved by
Julian Landau and the rest by the Bard defensive squad. In the 26th minute, Vassar earned a penalty kick goal and converted it to give them a 1-0 lead entering the second half. Bard got two shots on goal in the first half, one from
Emmett Olson and the other from
Cole Ewalt.
The second half saw the Brewers maintain their offensive intensity, but the Bard defense made them work for every opportunity. Vassar scored two more goals before the end of the game, putting them at 3-0. Bard took six shots throughout the match, with contributions from
Frankie Perera-Modica, Ewalt,
Mateo Betelu, and Olson, but they couldn't break through Vassar's defense.
Bard's goalkeepers, Landau and
Will Beane-Rosenberg, totaled for seven saves on the day, with Landau totaling a career-high of six saves.
The Raptors hosted their annual Kick it Pink Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation theme game and sold pink t-shirts and raffle tickets. They also had the Red Hook U10 Lightning walk out during the lineup and national anthem.
Bard will be back in action on Saturday when they take on RIT at 1 p.m. and will host some Youth Clubs.
