ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON – The Bard College women's volleyball team were victorious over Farmingdale State in a five-set thriller on Tuesday night in front of a great crowd in the Stevenson Athletic Center. Set scores were 18-25, 25-22, 25-23, 12-25, 15-13.

Bard (2-3) was led by senior Ryan Lum and sophomore Abi Batingan, who combined for 24 kills. Lum had her first double-double of the young season with 15 kills and a season high 16 digs. Batingan had the performance of her career on the pin. She had a career-high nine kills with no errors and hit .600.

Senior Adi David led the team in assists with 27 and added five digs. Senior Emily Hall Smith showed her versatility with eight kills, four aces, two digs and a block assist while first-year LaeAnna Riley had a career-high four aces, four digs, and a block assist. Sophomore libero Ella Small added 11 digs, while fellow sophomore Nyla Lawrence finished with five kills and a dig.

Bard and Farmingdale (0-2) traded points back and forth for much of the first set but, up 19-18, the Rams went on a 6-0 run to close out the set. FSC finished the opening frame with a 11-9 advantage in kills.

Farmingdale was ahead in the second 19-13, but the Raptors came back with a 9-1 run to take a 22-20 lead. An ace from David gave the Raptors set point and Lawrence sealed it off with a kill. The third set was similar to the second set in that the Rams had an early advantage but a 7-3 run late in the game secured a 23-21 lead for the Raptors. A service ace from Riley put the set away and gave the Raptors a 2-sets-to-1 lead.

In the fourth set, Bard struggled to find their rhythm offensively, putting away just six kills. Farmingdale took advantage with a 14-3 run to end it and force a fifth set.

Bard and Farmingdale were tied at 5-5 in the fifth set, but the Raptors got two kills from Lum and an ace from Riley which gave Bard an 8-5 cushion. Batingan came up big at 13-12 with a kill to set the Raptors up with match point. A service error from the Rams sealed the victory.

Bard will travel to Allentown on Friday for the Muhlenberg Tournament. The Raptors will face Muhlenberg at 3 p.m. on Friday.
