ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. — The Bard College women's volleyball split a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon at Stevenson Athletic Center for Alumni and Officials Appreciation Day.
Bard (8-11, 0-4 Liberty League) had strong performances from senior
Ryan Lum and sophomore
Nyla Lawrence. Lum led the team with 19 kills, 20 digs and 10 aces, while Lawrence totaled 16 kills, including a career-high 14 kills against SUNY Poly.
Senior setter
Adi David totaled 49 assists, including 33 assists against SUNY Poly. David added seven kills, four aces and 11 digs. Fellow senior
Puja Clements had 16 digs and added two aces, while sophomore libero
Ella Small had 11 digs and three aces. Senior
Annie Couey had a season-high six aces against SUNY Poly.
Bard will travel to Sage for a non-conference match-up on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
RIT 3, Bard 0
RIT (7-11, 1-0) outpaced Bard in kills 41-23, and took an early lead in the opening set and never trailed. Bard took an 8-7 lead after a 4-0 run in the second set, but RIT answered back with an 8-1 run to take a 15-9 lead. The Raptors were within two of the Tigers, 18-16, but a 7-4 run from RIT sealed the set. The third set was tied at 5-5, but RIT took a 10-2 run to lead 15-7. Bard answered back with a 6-1 run to be within four, 22-17, but back-to-back kills and a Bard error gave RIT a match point. The Raptors saved two matchpoints and but it was not enough for a comeback.
Bard 3, SUNY Poly 1
The opening set consisted of four tie scores and three lead changes. With the set tied up at 14-14, SUNY Poly (2-12) went on a 11-3 run to take the only set they won this weekend. The Wildcats had their best hitting percentage of the set as they hit .241 with seven kills and no errors.
Bard flipped the script and took a 19-8 lead in the second set. The Raptors finished the set with a service ace from David. In the third set, Bard had a 7-5 lead but a 17-3 run gave the Raptors set point, which was sealed with a Wildcat service error.
In the fourth set, SUNY Poly had an 11-6 lead, but the Raptors fought their way back and took a 13-11 lead with seven unanswered points from the Wildcats. Bard never trailed again and sealed the victory with a kill from Lawrence.
