ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. — The Bard College women's soccer team battled Vassar to a scoreless draw at Ferrari Field on Wednesday evening in a hard-fought conference match.
Both teams had seven shots on goal in the match, and
Seymone Rosenberg extended her excellent run of play in goal for the Raptors. The junior made seven saves, including three crucial stops in the final minutes, to earn her third shutout of the season.
Bard (4-2-1, 0-1-1 Liberty League) traded shots with Vassar (5-2-2, 0-0-2) in the opening minutes of the game, with
Carina Cooke and
Waleska Brito both putting shots on goal for the Raptors early on. Vassar made a host of substitutions, changing more than half their lineup with 20 minutes left in the first session, but neither team could find a way to break through.
The second half opened with Vassar earning several shots and corners, but Bard answered back when
Emma Kuntz hit the crossbar with a shot in the 51st minute. Both teams battled hard in the remainder of the half, but Bard's defense, with contributions from
Camila Sandaal,
Sierra Celiberti,
Emma LaPenta,
Senowa Leverentz, and Cooke, as well as big saves from Rosenberg, helped the Raptors earn the tie.
The draw represented the first Liberty League point for Head Coach
Kate Hofstede, and the first for the team since a 1-0 victory over Ithaca on October 7, 2017. The match was the first time Bard has held Vassar scoreless in the 24 games between the two teams on record, dating back to 1994.
Bard will host Rochester Institute of Technology for the team's Kick It Pink game - a fundraiser for breast cancer awareness and research - on Ferrari Field this Saturday at 1 p.m.
