ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College men's soccer team opened up their season with a 3-1 win over SUNY Purchase on a beautiful, sunny Friday afternoon. 

Bard (1-0) started off strong with a goal at the 9:52 mark from a well-executed play. A perfect cross to the center of the box by junior Cole Ewalt set up junior Logan Tondini, who finished it with a header. It was Tondini's first collegiate goal. 

The Raptors continued their hot shooting when first-year Frankie Perera-Modica recorded his first collegiate goal in the 29th minute. A great hustle play by sophomore Sam Gerber saved the ball from the end line and brought it back across the box for Perera-Modica's right-footed finish. 

Purchase (0-1) answered back with a goal late in the second half but Bard sealed their victory with Gerber's first collegiate goal. The sophomore chipped a shot from just outside the box into the top corner of the goal in the 75th minute, just past the Panther goalkeeper's outstretched hand.

Junior goalkeeper Gavin Hersey had four saves. Bard finished with a 20-9 advantage in shots and bested Purchase 11-5 in shots on goal. 

Gerber's goal and assist combo is the first by a Raptor since Reed Campbell achieved the same against York College on Sept. 11, 2021. 

Bard travels to SUNY Canton on Sunday, September 3rd, for an 11 a.m. kickoff.
