BROOKLYN, NY – Strong performances from many different players led the Bard men's volleyball team to a pair of wins on Saturday afternoon, as the Raptors beat Bryn Athyn 3-1 and Pratt 3-0 in New York City.
The victories improved Bard's record to 9-13 with three league matches remaining as the team pushes for a spot in the NECC playoffs.
The Raptors' first match on Saturday was against Bryn Athyn as part of a tri-match hosted by Pratt, and Bard took control early, jumping out to a 14-6 lead en route to a 25-18 win in the first set.
The Lions battled back in the second set, winning 26-24, but Bard recovered to take the third and fourth sets comfortably, 25-17 and 25-16.
Calvin Mader-Clark had 10 kills and hit .500 in the match, and the team benefitted from the play of both
Azriel Almodovar and
Logan Tondini, who stepped into different roles, helped bring the team together, and got everyone on the same page.
Ty McGlynn led the Raptors with 12 kills and had 8 service aces in the match.
In the second match against the hosts, Bard again used the effective hitting of McGlynn (12 kills) and
Angel Obergh (9 kills), but also had efficient offensive production from Tondini (6 kills),
Isaiah Ortiz (5 kills), and
Ben Murray (4 kills).
The Raptors will host Endicott College in a rescheduled match on Tuesday evening before Senior Night on Thursday, April 6 at 7pm, when Bard hosts SUNY Poly in the final home match of the season.
