NEW PALTZ, N.Y. - The Bard women's lacrosse team opened its 2023 season on Wednesday afternoon at SUNY New Paltz, with many different players making contributions in the team's debut.
The hosts took a 24-4 victory, and the Raptors will look ahead to Saturday's matchup against Albertus Magnus at Ferrari Field.
"I was really proud of the whole team and the way they battled today," said Bard coach
Mike Galantich. "Every single person on the roster made a contribution, and for many of them it was their collegiate debut. This was a good first test for us, and we can build from here."
Sophomore
Maggy Peyton led the way for the Raptors with three of the team's goals, and
Sarah Child added a goal and an assist.
Izzi Popolizio had two assists, and
Morgan Ruhle had a pair of ground balls. First-year goalie
Lexie Blackburn had eight saves in her collegiate debut. The game was also Galantich's first as the head coach for the Raptors.
The team will host Albertus Magnus on Saturday and Mount Saint Vincent on Monday as the team starts its busiest stretch of the season.
