ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Seven different Raptors got on the scoresheet as the Bard women's lacrosse team earned a big victory over Albertus Magnus on Saturday, winning 19-6 at Ferrari Field.
Sarah Child and
Izzi Popolizio led the way for Bard, with Child scoring a team-high seven goals, and Popolizio adding three goals and seven assists to set up the team's attack. Also contributing to the scoring output were
Lily Clough (four goals),
Maggy Peyton (two goals and one assist), and
Gloria Tucker,
Paige Gregg, and
Morgan Ruhle with one score each.
First-year goalie
Lexie Blackburn had a huge game, coming up with 12 saves, including many in the first half to preserve Bard's early lead.Â
"It was great for the team get their first win early on in the season," said Bard coach
Mike Galantich. "It was a full team effort. We took a step forward today and will continue to build from here."
The win was the first of the season for the Raptors, and the first for the program's coaching staff of Galantich and
Amara Kutos, who started their work with the team in the fall.
The Raptors will return to action quickly, hosting the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Monday evening at the start of a busy week. The team will visit Hartwick on Wednesday before returning home for the team's first Liberty League match on Saturday against Skidmore College.
