ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Bard women's track team enjoyed a successful first day at the Liberty League Indoor Track Championships on Friday in Rochester.
Several members of the team set personal records as the Raptors participated in the indoor championships for just the second time.
"This was an outstanding performance for the team," said Bard coach Billy Poole-Harris. "Everyone showed up ready to compete and put forward a great performance. But they also showed a lot of grit and tenacity, especially
Hawra Moochhala and
Sophia Tighe, who were battling injury and sickness and still put in great performances."
Moochhala and Tighe were both competing in the 400m, where Moochhala was able to set a new PR, taking half a second off her previous best.
First-year sprinter
Jynaiya Grizzle also PR'd, running a tenth of a second faster than the 60m mark she set three weeks ago. Classmate
Martha Gomez nearly broke the school record in the shot put, but did set a PR by almost half a meter.
The team continues its participation on Saturday in the second day of the competition, with events including the 200m, 800m, high jump, and 4x400m relay.
