Women's swimming starts strong at Liberty League Championships

The Raptors' 200-medley relay team set a new school record on Wednesday
ITHACA, N.Y. - The Bard women's swimming team enjoyed a historic first day at the Liberty League Championships hosted by Ithaca College.

The day culminated with the first "A" final swim at the Liberty League Championship - and a new team record - in the 200-medley relay. The quartet of Mary V. Mendez-Vilchez, Yolanda Liu, Olivia Dower, and Una Winn set the record and finished 8th with a time of 2:01.63.

"The cards fell just right in the morning for us to qualify to swim in the final," said coach John Weitz. "The relay improved their season best time by over six seconds just to qualify, but when given that opportunity, they improved two more seconds at night to set the new record. All four women stepped up and really swam well."

Competition continues tomorrow and through Saturday at Ithaca.
