ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY - The Bard College men's soccer team lost 2-0 to Union in a Liberty League match on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Ferrari Field.
Bard (5-3-2, 0-3-2 Liberty League) had a pair of early saves from junior goalkeeper Gavin Hersey as Union (6-4-2, 3-0-0) started strong with two shots on goal within 10 minutes of play. The Garnet Chargers took a 1-0 lead when Alan Daniel scored from close range and into the bottom right corner.
Bard attempted to tie the game with shots by first-year Mateo Betulu and junior Logan Todini, but current Liberty League Rookie of the Week goalkeeper Paul Agne saved both shots. Union scored their second goal of the game off a free kick that sailed into the box and headed in by the Union's Christian Rufo to take a 2-0 lead at the end of the first half.
The Raptors battled back in the second half and had a shot on goal by Sam Gerber, but the Garnet Chargers could withstand the Bard offensive run. Bard had a 6-3 shot advantage in the second half compared to the first half, with Union taking an 8-4 shot advantage.
Hersey finished the game with six saves for the Raptors. Bard took a 3-2 corner advantage, but Union had the 8-4 shots on goal advantage.
Bard will host Clarkson University on Ferrari Field next Friday at 4 p.m.
