ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College men's soccer team suffered a tough loss on Wednesday night, falling 3-1 in a Liberty League contest against RPI at Ferrari Field.
Bard (5-2-2, 0-2-2 Liberty League) trailed 1-0 at the half, but two goals by RPI (4-4-2, 1-2-0) in the second half extended the visitors' lead before junior
Zach Burmeister scored his third of the season.
The first 30 minutes of the match were evenly played, with both teams having opportunities on goal, but the Engineers took the lead in the 33rd minute on a shot from outside the box that deflected off a Raptor defender's leg and into the back of the net.
RPI extended their lead with a goal in the 55th minute and another goal on a penalty kick in the 70th minute. The Raptors cut the lead to 3-1 on a corner kick, when first-year
Emmett Olson whipped the ball inside the six-yard box to find Burmeister, whose header bounced into the back of the net.
Tonight's match was dedicated to Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation, with representatives from Bard's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee helping raise money and awareness for the cause.
Bard will host Union on Saturday at 2 p.m.
