ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College men's soccer team lost a close game to the Hobart Statesmen, 3-2, in a road Liberty League match on Saturday afternoon.
Hobart (8-5-2, 6-1-1 Libety League) put their first goal on the scoreboard in the 23rd minute of play, but Bard (5-6-2, 0-6-2) responded with a 40 yard goal from
Mateo Betelu after breaking up a pass from the opposition, and the teams went into the half with a 1-1 tie.
The Statesmen and Raptors battled early in the second half with both teams trading shots, but the Statesmen went up 3-1 with back-to-back goals coming in the 59th and 61st minute. Bard scored its final goal in the last minutes of the game when
Mateo Betelu beat his defender and scored his second goal off a cross from
Cole Ewalt. The Raptors attempted to tie the game again in the 83rd minute of play from a
Reed Campbell shot, but his shot missed off target.
Mateo Betelu continues his strong play for the Raptors scoring his 2nd and 3rd goals of the season.
Gavin Hersey recorded two saves in the game.
Bard will close the season next week with their final two games coming at home on Ferrari Field, where the Raptors will face SUNY Cobleskill on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and a Liberty League match against Skidmore on Saturday at 2 p.m.
