Rouskas shines in battle with Hartwick

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's lacrosse team lost to Hartwick College, 11-10, in a non-league game on Wednesday evening.

In a game that was tied at 1-1, 2-2 and so on all the way up to 9-9 entering the fourth quarter, Bard goalie Roxanne Rouskas stood out, making 16 saves. She had a .593 save percentage and kept Bard in the game right until the final minute.

"I'm disappointed with the result but proud of the grit we showed," Bard coach Rachel Vallarelli said.

Bard first year Sarah Child had four goals, two assists, three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Izzi Popolizio added three goals, and Maggy Peyton had a goal and three assists. Emma Heffron scored, too, and led Bard with seven ground balls and four caused turnovers.

"I'm proud of how we fought throughout the game," Vallarelli said. "Our defense played tight and Roxy (Rouskas) came up big for us."

Bard begins Liberty League play at Skidmore on Saturday.
