Big second half carries Bard over Mount St. Mary in Hudson Valley Classic

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College men's basketball team defeated Mount St. Mary College, 83-62, in the Hudson Valley Classic on Friday night.

Bard led by three at the half, but by 15 halfway through the second half. The Raptors made 8-of-15 from beyond the three-point arc in the final 20 minutes - including six in a row - after going 5-for-25 from out there in the first half.

"It was a great win in an awesome home environment," Bard coach Michael Lenahan said. "We played 40 minutes of great defense, and that's why we won. We want to thank all the fans for coming out, too."

Bard got 18 points from Elliot Harris, 17 from Tyler Bruns and 16 from first year Calvin Mader-Clark. Bruns and first year Caleb Moore led the team with eight rebounds apiece, and Azriel Almodovar was all over the place, producing four points, three rebounds, six assists and five steals.

Vassar beat New Paltz, 85-76, in the opener. The event moves to Poughkeepsie on Saturday, where Bard will play New Paltz at 4, and Vassar will host Mount St. Mary at 6.

"We're excited for the opportunity to play a really good New Paltz team," Lenahan said.
