ELMIRA, N.Y. - The Bard College men's basketball team opened the 2022-23 season at the Elmira Alumni Classic on Friday night.
Down by one with just over 14 minutes left in the game, the Raptors went on a 25-0 run over the next seven minutes and cruised, 92-79. Bard's 20 three-pointers made was a program record.
"Awesome team effort to start the season with a win," Bard coach
Michael Lenahan said. "We elevated our defensive level in the second half, and it allowed us to go on a 25-0 run that carried us to victory. We will need similar intensity against Penn State-Berks on Saturday."
Eleven players scored for the Raptors, led by first year
Calvin Mader-Clark, who scored 18 in his collegiate debut.
Sean Wilcox and
Elliot Harris added 13 points apiece, and
Greg Farrow, recently back from a preseason injury, added 10 points in 14 minutes.
The previous team record for three-pointers made in a game was 17, set by last year's team against both Mount St. Mary and RIT.
Bard will play Penn State-Berks on the second day of the event. Tip-off Saturday is at 1.
