McGlynn swings way into Bard record book during split at Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Bard College men's volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday, defeated Mount Aloysius, 3-0, and losing to host Wilkes, 3-2.

Bard first year Ty McGlynn, playing in just his fourth college match, grabbed a spot in the Bard record book with 26 kills in the match against Wilkes. The last time a Bard player had that many kills in a match was Apr. 7, 2012, when Nick Chan had 24 kills in a 3-1 loss to Southern Vermont. McGlynn's 26 kills are tied for fourth all-time for kills in a match.

"It was a great day," Bard coach Adam Niemczynowicz said. "We played with a lot of heart and showed a lot of resilience."

Bard opened the day by sweeping Mount Aloysius, 25-17, 30-28 and 25-22. McGlynn had 12 kills and four digs; Angel Obergh had 11 kills and six aces, Josh Kim had 28 assists, and Ben Casler led the way with nine digs.

In the five-setter against Wilkes, McGlynn finished with 26 kills and 15 digs; Obergh had nine kills and 11 digs; Quincy Ross had eight kills and six blocks, and Kim had 44 assists. Casler added 15 digs.

"The loss was a hard one to swallow," Niemczynowicz said, "but there were a lot of things to be happy about. We learned a lot about our identity and are building a strong, family unit. We're looking forward to getting back to the gym to work on things we saw and learned today."

Bard will host Mount Aloysius on Friday at 7 p.m.
