Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Women's volleyball team wins two five-setters on the same day

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's volleyball team won two five-set matches on the same day for the first time in the history of the program on Saturday.

The Raptors began the day by beating Sarah Lawrence, 3-2, after losing the first set. They ended the day by beating Albertus Magnus, 3-2, after being down, 2-1.

"The team is really pumped about notching their first wins of the season," Bard coach Stefanie Carrington said. "Winning them is one thing, winning two in one day is another thing, but grinding out two grueling five-set matches is on a whole different level. It was truly a team effort and we needed every one of our players' contributions to get it done. Our serve/pass game was a little shaky early in the day which hurt us in the first set against Sarah Lawrence, but the team was really able to solidify those areas which, ultimately, laid the foundation for the success we had."

Bard setter Adi David, after producing 40 assists in the first match, got into the Bard record book with 43 in the second match, tying her for fifth all-time in that category. Anna Skamser led Bard with 13 kills and four blocks against Sarah Lawrence; Ryan Lum had 17 kills, 15 digs and six aces against Albertus Magnus.

"Adi David continues to impress me with her leadership and ability to distribute the ball to all of our hitters so effectively," Carrington said. "The fact that she's already notched a spot in the Bard Volleyball record book so early in her sophomore year has me really excited about what she'll achieve through the rest of her career.

"Our middles really shone today as well," she added. "Anna Skamser and Precious Star came alive in today's matches and provided us with some significant fire power at the net. Ryan Lum has proven herself to be quite a stabilizer for our team and has impacted us  as a rock on defense in addition to her contributions in the front row. Emily Peck came through in the clutch with some stellar serving in the fifth set against Albertus Magnus. We were down early 2-5 and she took to the back line with confidence to help run us run off five straight points to take the lead. That was such a crucial moment in the match and she was really impressive in her resolve and her accuracy."

Bard will next travel to William Paterson University for a tri-match with John Jay on Saturday, Sept. 18.
