ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College men's soccer team rallied to defeat York College, 6-1, in its home opener on Saturday afternoon.
After conceding an own goal early on, goals by
Caleb Ribeiro,
Pat Devine and Ribeiro again on a penalty kick gave Bard a 3-1 lead at the half. After a red card in the second half left York with 10 players, the Raptors scored three more times, and they were all first career goals for
Reed Campbell,
Zach Burmeister and newcomer
Sulayman Jaiteh.
"I was pleased with how well we responded after giving up an own goal," Bard coach
TJ Kostecky said. "Peter (Mahoney) stood out, starting his first match at center back, and Gavin (Hersey) made a big-time save early in the match that gave us confidence.
"I was also pleased that we had goals from so many different players," Kostecky added.
Up next for Bard is a non-league home match against SUNY Delhi on Wednesdsay night.
