ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Bard College men's soccer team lost to Rochester Institute of Technology, 3-0, in a Liberty League game on Saturday afternoon.
Bard was in a jam early when starting goalkeeper
Gavin Hersey received a red card after a collision just outside the top of the box in the 20th minute, so the Raptors played with 10 men for the rest of the game.
Coe Trevorrow filled in admirably, and it was 0-0 at halftime, but RIT scored three times in the second half.
"I've never been delighted with a 3-0 loss before - we've had 1-0 wins after which I was disappointed - but I'm delighted with our effort today," Bard coach
TJ Kostecky said. "Down a man, we had a chance to go up 1-0 late in the first half, and (Trevorrow) stepped in and played really, really well. He's never played goalie, never trained at goalie. He was ready to sub in at midfield when this happened, and he asked me if I wanted him to play in goal, and I said yes."
Bard's final two games of the 2021 season are both at home. The Raptors host Union on Wednesday and Skidmore on Saturday. The Saturday contest will be Senior Day.
"The guys really gritted this one out," Kostecky said. "Min (Purvis) and Caleb (Wagner) filled in admirably for our two injured center backs, (
Kristian Krslovic) was terrific - really what an effort from the whole team. Last time RIT annihilated us up here (6-0). Today, we almost scored a man down with two minutes left in the game. We defended with passion and I'm not disappointed at all."
