ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College men's soccer team lost to Union College, 2-1, in overtime in a Liberty League game on Wednesday night.
Bard scored first on a long strike from
Caleb Ribeiro in the 64th minute, but Union tied it up in the 73rd minute, then won it just over seven minutes into overtime. The Raptors got a strong game from first-time goalkeeper Rowan Heinze, who was filling in for
Gavin Hersey, who drew a red card against RIT on Saturday.
"The one actually hurts; it's painful," Bard coach
TJ Kostecky said. "It was a great effort. The result doesn't feel right for the effort we put in."
Heinze made six saves, including a diving save on a bending shot that was headed for the upper 90 early in overtime.
"We were defending so hard, blocking shots, and we had a great energy level," Kostecky said. "Rowan, a first time goalkeeper slash basketball player, makes a massive save in overtime. That was a tremendous save. And Caleb's goal was one of the bests goals of the year. He had to be 28 or 30 yards from goal.
"We had our chances, especially late in the game," he added.
The 2021 season concludes on Saturday for Bard against Skidmore. It'll be Senior Day for
Bobby Knoth,
Denny Lane,
Joey Carbone and
Pat Devine.
