GENEVA, N.Y. - The Bard College men's soccer team lost to Hobart College, 1-0, in a Liberty League game on Saturday afternoon.

The Statesman made a goal in the eighth minute stand up, even though Bard produced more shots on goal in the second half than they did. The goal came on a full volley off a corner kick from outside the box.

"Our team continued to defend with tremendous tenacity and conviction against one of the top teams in the league," Bard coach TJ Kostecky said. "We couldn't even step on the field with these guys two years ago (a 4-0 loss). Here we are two years later and they're protecting a narrow lead at the end of the game. We've really closed the gap in a short period of time."

Gavin Hersey made four saves for Bard; Kostecky had praise for defender Nick Agugliaro.

"His poise, his maturity and his communication were vital today," Kostecky said. "He has stepped up his role, embraced it, and he's an important leader in our back four."

Bard next plays at Ithaca on Saturday at 2.
