Raptors defeated by Vassar in four sets

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's volleyball team lost to Vassar College, 3-1, in a Liberty League match on Wednesday night.

Set scores for the winners were 25-17, 25-17, 22-25 and 25-10.

"Our team fought for every point of tonight's match against Vassar," Bard coach Stefanie Carrington said. "The crowd was amazing and there was a ton of energy, which made the return to our home gym extra special. I'm in awe of the way our student-athletes are able to balance everything they have on their plates, especially this week, when the demands on them academically are so high. To show up and battle a strong Vassar team the way they did was really impressive."

Bard got nine kills and two blocks from Anna Skamser, 22 assists, 11 digs and six aces from Adi David, and five kills and 11 digs from Ryan Lum.

"Puja Clements played with composure and leadership beyond her years," Carrington said. "She was a vocal leader and absolutely killed it with her defensive effort. Anna Skamser had a really strong showing tonight as well. We rely on our pin hitters a lot, so I think we're able to catch opponents off guard with how effective we can be out of the middle.

"Laurel Edwards quietly made an impact with her block on the right side, too," Carrington added. "In addition to the three she finished for points, she was present for so many other opportunities that kept the Vassar attackers from scoring the way they wanted to."

Bard next hosts a tri-match with Maritime and St. Joseph's-Long Island on Saturday.
