Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Second-half surge pushes RIT past Bard

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - A 19-0 run that bridged the third and fourth quarters broke open what was a three-point game, and the women's basketball team from Rochester Institute of Technology pulled away to beat Bard, 75-49, in a Liberty League game on Friday night.

Bard led 5-0 early, but 22-12 at the end of the first quarter, and 28-14 early in the second quarter. The Raptors fought back, though, ending the half on a 14-5 run to trail just 33-28 at the break.

RIT scored the first four points to start the third quarter, but again Bard responded, cutting the deficit to three a trio of times, the last instance on a Marissa Munsell jumper with 2:40 left in the third quarter. Bard trailed, 43-40.

That's when RIT went back to full court pressure, and unlike the first half, it paid off. The resulting turnovers became baskets, and RIT blew the game open with a 19-0 run. It was a 32-6 surge from the 2:40 mark of the third quarter to the end of the game.

Bard, which was playing with seven players, got points from everyone. Caleigh DeCaprio hit four three-pointers and finished with 14 points, three assists and two steals. Christina Kiser finished with 14 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Munsell and Katie Esposito each finished with six points, with Munsell adding nine rebounds and Esposito dishing out four assists. Bard's 15 assists matched the most it had in a conference game this season.

RIT got 20 points, seven rebounds, three assists and four steals from Sabrina Wolfe (Troy, NY).

Bard's final home game of the 2019-20 will be played on Saturday against Union. Follow it live right here.
