Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Raptors, Purchase share scoreless draw

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College men's soccer team hasn't produced many scoreless draws in its history - the last one was in 2016 - but Wednesday's 0-0 double-overtime scrap with Purchase College was memorable for the goals that didn't happen.

Junior keeper Logan Leppo, who handled numerous routine saves during regulation time, made three incredible saves down the stretch and in the overtime periods to preserve the draw. In the 84th minute, he made a diving save to his right to deny Jackson Stenborg (Brooklyn, NY), who hit a laser from the corner of box labeled for the far post. The rebound spilled right in front of an onrushing Purchase player, and Leppo, from his side, swatted it away from trouble with his right hand at the last possible moment. The groan from the Purchase bench was loud.

Then in the second minute of the first overtime, Leppo stoned Juan Arboleda (New Rochelle, NY), this time diving to his left as the shot was low to the far post. Stenborg collected the rebound quickly and blasted a shot for the far corner, but Leppo got a finger on the high shot and frustrated the Panthers again.

Leppo wasn't the only heroic one out there. A header off a corner was cleared off the line by a Bard defender early in the second half, and numerous other chances were thwarted repeatedly by Min Purvis, Liam Gomez and Pat Devine, among others.

Overall, Purchase produced 25 shots to Bard's 9, but Leppo made 13 saves - eight of those coming in the second half. No, that's not  a record for him. He had 17 in a game last year.

There were 34 fouls in the game (21 for Purchase) and six yellow cards issued, four of those going to the visitors.

Coe Trevorrow got off a pair of shots on goal for the Raptors, who are 1-6-1. Mario Olmedo (East Elmhurst, NY) made three saves for the Panthers, who are 4-2-1.

Up next for Bard is a Liberty League game at 12th-ranked Ithaca College on Saturday. Follow it live right here.
