ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The United States Merchant Marine Academy scored 12 runs in the first three innings and cruised to a 16-3 victory over Bard College in a non-league game on Wednesday.
The Mariners (15-7) put up seven runs on six hits in the top of the first, three runs on four hits in the top of the second, and two runs on two hits in the top of the third to take a 12-0 lead.
Meanwhile, USMMAÂ freshman starter Garrett Aichele (Bainbridge Island, WA) was cruising. He didn't give up a hit until
Angelo Winings led off the bottom of the eighth with a single. Aichele's final line was eight innings pitched, one hit, one walk, 12 strikeouts.
Bard put up three runs in the bottom of the ninth, on an
Esteban Rivera RBI single and two-run single by
Chris Blake. The Mariners outhit the Raptors, 20-5, and neither team made an error.
